Shadow of Woman

By: Ms. K

Where is my voice?

Where is my opinion?

I know I am a woman

But I am so much more then just an illusion

For men to just kidnap my identity

For my pride and intelligence to be stolen

For my government to not protect me

Why does my tears turn to ash?

Why does my education turn to dust?

My mind is not respected

My body only seen as property

Who hears my screams?

My worth slowly shrivels up into non-existence

My desire to be brave shrinks to wonderland proportion

Yet my voice remain silent

The tongue in my mouth does not vibrate

It only shivers from fear

I have disappeared into the night skies

My existence no longer exist

My voice has no vocal cord

Someone find me and free my spirit

I no longer want to be trapped in a cage

In a world where a man can rob me of my intelligence

I don’t have a voice

I am not free

I am a woman lost!

It has been three weeks since more then 200 girls were abducted from their boarding school. It has been said that they will be selling them as brides for $12 each. Finally “bring back our girls” has become world news and government leaders are finally stepping in to make a difference. Even though it took some time for this important issue to get world recognition it is important for these girls to know they are important. This is what President Barack Obama had to say on the topic information received from time.com: “Obviously it’s a heartbreaking situation, outrageous situation,” President Barack Obama told ABC on Tuesday. “We’ve already sent in a team to Nigeria – they’ve accepted our help through a combination of military, law enforcement, and other agencies who are going in, trying to identify where in fact these girls might be and provide them help,” he added.”

While the Nigerian armed group Boko Haram said “By Allah, I will sell them in the marketplace,” he said in the video that starts with fighters lofting automatic rifles and shooting in the air as they chant “Allahu akbar!” or “God is great”.

He does not see what he did as wrong by taking this girls and taking away their education! He sees them just as property that has no value.

These girls matter, they are not invisible. They have a purpose to make a difference and no group will destroy their vision.
