Depending on your profession, you may have considered what to do about hosiery? Should you wear pantyhose or tights or maybe even a slip under your work clothes?
These days, the trend seems to lean towards hosiery being an optional garment to wear. However, for most it depends on your profession. If you are finding it difficult to decide, evaluate your profession. Is it conservative such as in law, medicine, or politics? If so, then I would say ‘Yea’ to hosiery regardless of whether or not you do see anyone in your current office wearing it. If you have to meet with clients or other professionals then wearing hosiery gives a traditional conservative look. Do you classify your profession as liberal such as in the arts and sciences? If so, I would say ‘Nay’ to hosiery if you are not meeting clients and your office does not have a strict wardrobe policy. Also, where do you live? I live in Miami, so that is an automatic ‘Nay’ for us down here. When I use to live in New York, it varied on where you work as well as the season.
Prime example of decision making is myself.
I work at a Fortune 100 company in Miami.
I work in Finance.
I do not meet with clients.
Women at work do not wear hosiery
I would classify my environment as a medium between liberal and conservative
Nay to hosiery for me
Although I will admit that at my other finance job in London I did weary hosiery on a consistent basis and when I did not it felt awkward.
Ultimately it depends on how you feel and what you want to present to your co-workers and bosses.
Whether we like to believe it or not, we are judged everyday on the way we present ourselves to society.
