4. silk shirt coverup (body central $6.99)

Night look:

1. Silk dress (cotton on $15)

Day look:

National Small Business Week

small business week

By: Ms. J

“In his proclamation declaring May 12-16 as National Small Business Week, President Barack Obama called small businesses “the lifeblood of our economy, employing half of our country’s workforce and creating nearly two out of every three new American jobs.” (CNBC).

Hosted in select cities each year, the SBA uses this opportunity as a forum to foster and assist small businesses around the U.S. This year, San Francisco, Kansas City, Boston and Washington D.C. were the top cities chosen to host this year’s events. If you happen to reside in or close to one of these cities, take a moment to attend, learn and use the knowledge the government is offering to further your business opportunity.

Accessorize: “Always Wear Your Crown”

wearing your crown

By: Ms. J

As women with ambition to succeed in life, we tend to let ourselves go in order to reach our goals. Most of us such as myself are goal oriented with a timeline to achieve these goals. The meticulous way in which we orchestrate our lives whether personally, professionally or both has allowed us to reach places we have only dreamed of. During this time, some of us forget to wear our crown in the process.

National Healthcare Decision Day

nhdd

By: Ms. J

Today is the 7th annual National Healthcare Decision Day. This day is to “inspire, educate & empower the public & providers about the importance of advance care planning.” (Nhdd). As much as most of us like to live in the moment and not think about the future, knowing and communicating your wishes should you be unable to, is very important. What I am talking about is planning for healthcare in advance. Should you become terminally ill, mentally disabled, aged or more, being able to express your wishes during a tough time eliminates conflict between family members, health professionals and even the government. Take for instance recent highly publicized cases such as Marlise Munoz, where her family sought to take the pregnant brain-dead Texas woman off the ventilator, or the tragic brain death of 13-year-old Jahi McMath whose mother believes that she is not a corpse. In these cases, many have advocated for either keeping them on or off life support with many reasonable explainations, however due to the fact that there was not an Advanced Directive the person cannot communicate their wishes.

April is National Financial Capability Month. Proclaimed in 2012 by President Obama, he wanted to address the issue of American financial capability and debt. “During National Financial Capability Month, we recommit to ensuring everyone has access to the information and tools that empower them to operate safely and smartly in the marketplace.” (Obama, 2012). In order for the economy to strengthen, the people must be financially stable and secure. Take time to review your financial status and take ownership of it by becoming responsible for your past and present financial behavior.

International Moment of Laughter Day

Today, April 14th is International Moment of Laughter. Humorologist Izzy Gesell created this day to encourage people to laugh. No matter what is going in your life, take a moment to think of something funny that happened to you or someone you know and laugh about it. After all, laughter is the best medicine. Not only does it lifts your spirits, but it also strengthen your immune system, diminish stress and relaxes your body by releasing endorphins.

No SEX before Monogamy

No SEX before Monogamy

We have escaped the realms of dating and moved straight to sleeping with someone. A simple getting to know someone has skipped all the proper elements, instead of establishing a title we settle for just talking. The common notion of having fun has stretch the terms “ I am not looking for a relationship” into a premature I just want to have sex. Continue reading “No SEX before Monogamy”
